Residential
Mill Yard is a large mixed-use develepment in the centre of Cambridge, combining work and play. The scheme comprises 7 buildings, each type has differing acoustic requirements to satisify Building Control, Planning, the client and building rating schemes. https://millyardcambridge.com/

This project was multi-use and therefore had differing acoustic requirements across the site.
Residences
70 residential apartments in the scheme, all designed to be compliant with both Building Regulations and the Home Quality Mark scheme. As well as ensuring adjoining apartments had excellent sound separation, I personally undertook noise and vibration monitoring to inform design of the building envelope, ensuring occupants would not be disturbed by the nearby railway lines.
Offices/ Labs
The scheme includes 3 new office buildings, built to achieve BREEAM Outstanding ratings. Offices were designed in accordance with BS8233 and guidance from the Finishes and Interiors Sector. As with the residences, noise and vibration ingress from the nearby railway was a key consideration in the design of these buildings as well as:
Noise from mechanical systems
Finishes and resulting reverberation within office spaces
Sound separation and privacy between offices and across floors
Amenity areas
The scheme is to include many amenity facilities, including a gym, restaurants and outdoors gardens.
Particular attention was paid to the outdoor amenity areas to ensure these would be tranquil spaces, not heavily impacted by the nearby rail services.
